There is growing awareness among policymakers that innovation is one of the main drivers of economic progress and well-being. As far as Ipswich can successfully foster innovation and bring it to market, our regional, national, if not global competitiveness will be determined.
Now that innovation has moved to centre-stage in economic policy-making, there’s a realisation that a co-ordinated, coherent, ‘joined- up’ approach is required to nurture innovation, in ways that enhance economic impact that will boost productivity and growth.
To help ensure this happens locally, the University of Suffolk, New Anglia LEP, alongside Ipswich Borough and Suffolk County councils have collaborated with local businesses to create the Ipswich Waterfront Innovation Centre. The new facility opened its doors in October 2016.
Situated in the newly refurbished The Atrium on Ipswich’s impressive waterfront, members can enjoy stylish office accommodation, free training, access to the university’s leading academics, as well as superb facilities such as a new world-standard 3D printing facility, acquired with support from Ipswich Borough Council.
The centre ensures student talent from the university can be embedded locally, and encourages businesses to come together to launch innovative new projects. It will also explore ways to inspire collaborations between arts and tech businesses.
